Final TPS Studio Shoot - Evening of June 5th

...4pm - off work and changing into corduroy greys, different shoes and I am carrying camera and a VCR to my van from the cool interior of the building in which I work...this is my third shoot in two days...

...the Phoenix is running on fumes, and as I drive away, I am calculating the amount of fuel I have in relation to the distance I need to travel...

...I am still wearing my work shirt, since I have no air conditioning to speak of...I will change into my orange sweatshirt once I am in the studio...I take I44 to the 31st and Memorial exit, turn West and head toward Yale...

...I arrive, so I call Derick - no answer...I wait, and then call again...no answer...ten minutes later, I call..."hello, this is Derick"...

...up six floors to the studio...this will be our last shoot here, so I have packed everything into a plastic container, which I carry along with the tripod and camera case...

...the three objectives are: black background shots for Memory, the same for Awakening, the final shot of Awareness and, if time allows, the concept scenes for the trailer...

...Derick and I perform a little rearranging in anticipation of the scene structure we will need...after moving furniture, I relocate a small television from one point in the studio to another...I am also framing the scene, and I make minute adjustments to the aesthetics (curtain, position of a table, etc.)...

...I call Corey...he is now on his way, as is Conan...Derick leaves for his car to acquire his costume and hair gel...I continue with the set up until Conan, and then Corey arrive...

...Corey's scene takes less than a minute...he leaves, and we move on to Memory...

...at this point, I am feeling the weight of fatigue...I have to keep focused, and in every shoot, I have to translate my script into the reality of the set...I review my notes and my script, meticulously...

...I set up the shot a little different...I am always thinking "have I done this already?" and I try to make everything fresh...you have to keep it simple, too...you can get out of hand, if you're not careful...

...the Memory scene takes place after the scenes we will shoot this Saturday, but it does help to establish the character...Derick is an accomplished and outstanding actor...I enjoy working with him on all levels...he automatically takes off in a direction that I want for his character, and we shoot the scene, change angles, and shoot it again...

...as Derick leaves the studio, Conan and I begin what will finish his Chapter...I brought a Super 8 projector, rope lights and my fog machine...it takes some time for me to set everything the way I want it...we begin, and aside from choking Conan with fog juice, I am pushing him, coaxing him out of his natural tendencies in order to achieve the proper performance...I am gesturing, from behind the camera, like a satanic conductor in some sinister symphony...it took multiple takes, but I believe we have a few we can work with...

...the nighttime breeds another farewell, and the dark sky begins to bloom...until Saturday...
